Vacuum Hardening
Vacuum hardening uses heat to strengthen the steel after hardening.
Schmetz’s advanced technology furnace has a nitrogen injector from 2 points that activates while cooling down or quenching pieces, helping lessen bending caused by uneven temperature at the top and bottom part of the piece. With this technology, it can reach a deeper surface and cool the piece down evenly benefiting in desirable lengths and thinness. During the process, the temperature inside does not exceed 1,350 °C. It can also be used to continuously temper the piece without having to open the furnace door which results in a clean and aesthetic finish on the piece’s surface.
Tempering
The objective of tempering is to lessen the residual stress within the workpiece which occurs during hardening.
This process also helps strengthen and toughen the finished piece, preventing any cracks from occurring. It prevents bending and makes lathing, milling, and boring easier. It is more malleable and can be shaped easier by gradually increasing the temperature until reaching the desired degree according to the hardness scale. Afterwards, it will be brought out to cool down to the ambient room temperature. The maximum temperature during usage is less than 650 °C.

Apart from the aforementioned, the vacuum heat treatment can also be used to anneal stainless steel such as grade SUS304 and more. It will heat the steel until reaching the austenite temperature before cooling it down using nitrogen. The objective of this process is to enhance the steel’s properties, especially steel that has been through many forming processes such as casting, cold working, hot working, etc.
Stress Relieve
Stress Relieve
Stress relieving can be applied to nearly all types of carbon steel and low alloy steel. This enhances the property of steel that has passed forging, hot rolling, cold rolling, drawing, welding, or casting which may cause undesired effects to the steel. All these processes can be completed within the tempering furnace which can temper steel grades SCM440, SCM435, SCM415, and S45C at the highest temperature of 650°C.
